Jinan's Natural History Museum covers the geology, fossils, and wildlife of Shandong and the broader northeast China region. The dinosaur section is reasonably strong — Shandong has been an important site for dinosaur excavations, particularly hadrosaurs and sauropods from the Cretaceous — and the geological exhibits explain the limestone karst formation that makes Jinan's spring system possible.
The museum is less spectacular than the dedicated dinosaur museum in Linyi but more conveniently located for visitors based in Jinan. It is a good option for children or for anyone curious about why Jinan has springs when most Chinese cities do not. Entry is free or very low.
