Baoxiang Temple in Wenshang is a substantial Buddhist site within day-trip range of Jining, known for its pagoda, relic associations, and role in regional religious life. It offers a different kind of history from Jining's Confucian and Grand Canal sights.
The temple is most worthwhile if you are interested in living religious sites as well as old architecture. Give yourself time to move through the complex rather than treating it as a single photo stop, and expect a more local atmosphere than at China's marquee sacred mountains.
