Mount Yi rises south of Zoucheng and has been a famous Shandong mountain since antiquity. Confucius, Mencius, Qin Shihuang, Sima Qian, Li Bai, Du Fu, and Su Dongpo are all linked to the mountain in Chinese historical memory, which gives the climb more weight than the scenery alone.
The mountain works best as a day trip from Jining or Zoucheng. Go for the stone paths, views, and the sense of walking through a landscape that has been written about for centuries.
