The area around Nellore is dense with temples, and most make good half-day excursions. The Ranganayakula Swami Temple on the Pennar riverbank is the obvious starting point. Rajarajeshwari Devi Temple, Jonnavada Kamashamma Temple, and a cluster of smaller shrines — Ayyappa, Kumaraswamy, and Saibaba — are all within the city or close to it. About 15 km out is the Venkaiah Swamy Temple and a couple of well-regarded dargahs: Barashahid Darga near the Nellore Tank, and Masthanaiah Darga at Kasumur. The Velankani Church at Kotha Koduru on the coast is about 20 km away and combines well with a beach visit. For something completely different, the ruined fort at Udayagiri and the hilltop complex at Narasimha Konda are worth the drive if you have a car.
