Nellore is on the main Chennai-Kolkata railway line (the Howrah Main Line), which makes it one of the better-connected cities on the Andhra Pradesh coast. Multiple express trains stop here daily, including the Chennai-Vijayawada service. The journey from Chennai takes about 2.5 hours; from Vijayawada about 3.5 hours. The railway station is central and auto-rickshaws are available immediately outside.
By road, Nellore is 170 km north of Chennai via National Highway 16. The drive takes around 3 hours depending on traffic. State buses (APSRTC) connect Nellore to Chennai, Tirupati, Vijayawada, and most other major cities in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The main bus stand is a few minutes from the railway station.
There is no airport in Nellore; the nearest is Chennai (170 km south) or Tirupati (130 km northwest).
