Nellore's main draw is its temples — several are genuinely ancient and sit in atmospheric settings along the Pennar River. The Ranganayakula Swami Temple is the centrepiece, but there are shrines of all sizes scattered through the old parts of town. Beyond worship, the coastline and the flamingo sanctuary at Pulicat Lake are the highlights. Udayagiri Fort to the north is worth the drive for those with an interest in Vijayanagara history.
Sri Thalpagiri Ranganath Swami Temple
One of the oldest temples in the region, dedicated to Ranganath Swami and sitting directly on the banks of the Pennar. The riverside setting is peaceful and the temple sees a steady stream of pilgrims year-round.
