Khorikaa

The more contemporary face of Assamese food. Khorikaa, in the Six Mile area south of the centre, presents tribal and rural dishes — pork with bamboo shoot, smoked chicken, fish wrapped in plantain leaf, ant chutney — in a polished setting at a price point most foreigners are comfortable with. The decor leans towards bamboo-and-jute folk-craft chic; the food is the real draw.

Try the pork khorikaa (named after the bamboo skewer it is cooked on), the masor tenga, and the bhoot jolokia chicken if you want to test your tolerance for the world's hottest chilli. Reservations recommended on weekends. About ₹800 per person with drinks.
