Mahavir Mandir

One of the most visited Hindu temples in north India, dedicated to Hanuman, right next to Patna Junction

Mahavir Mandir is a Hanuman temple just outside Patna Junction railway station, and one of the busiest Hindu shrines in north India. It is unusual for a Hanuman temple in housing two identical idols of the deity, side by side, representing his benevolent (Parihar) and wish-granting (Prarthan) aspects.

The temple trust is one of the wealthiest in India after Tirupati, and uses the income to run hospitals and cancer treatment centres in Patna. The Tuesday and Saturday crowds are enormous; mornings are calmer. The temple's signature prasad is naivedyam, a small ladoo made with desi ghee and dried fruit, modelled on the Tirupati prasad.
