Things to Do

Patna's sights run from ancient Mauryan capitals to British-era follies. The Bihar Museum and the older Patna Museum together hold the best collection of early Buddhist sculpture in India. The Golghar's spiral staircase gives the only panoramic view of the city and the Ganges, and Takht Sri Patna Sahib is one of the holiest places in Sikhism. The ghats along the river, especially around Gandhi Maidan and Patna City to the east, are at their best at sunrise.

Most of central Patna can be covered on foot or by auto-rickshaw. Allow extra time -- traffic is heavy and street numbering is unreliable.
