Anantnag is well placed for day trips into the rest of the Kashmir Valley. Pahalgam, up the Lidder Valley, is the most popular destination and worth a full day. Srinagar, an hour and a half north, can also be done as a long day trip if you do not want to base there. Within the district, the Mughal gardens at Achabal, Kokernag, and Verinag can be linked into a single excellent day out.
