Anantnag is less of a destination in itself than a base for exploring the southern Kashmir Valley. The standout sight in the district is the ruined eighth-century Sun Temple at Martand, but the Mughal water gardens at Achabal, Kokernag, and Verinag are all within easy day-trip range and worth the drive.
