Jai Meadows

Jai Meadows fill a broad valley about 32 kilometres northeast of Bhadarwah town, high pastures reachable by a combination of road and short walk. In summer the grass is thick and wildflower-covered, with views back down to the Bhadarwah valley and across to the snowy ridgelines of the Pir Panjal.

These meadows serve as a base for shepherds who bring their flocks up from the lower valleys in June and July. Visiting them gives you a glimpse of a pastoral economy that has barely changed in centuries, and the walking here — through rhododendron scrub and across open pasture — requires no experience beyond reasonable fitness. Jai and Chinta meadows are often visited together as a day excursion from Bhadarwah.
