Bhadarwah, popularly called "Chhota Kashmir" (Little Kashmir), is a mountain town in the Doda district of Jammu, 80 km from Patnitop at around 1,600 m elevation. Dense deodar and pine forests surround it, with snow-capped peaks — including Ashapati and Kailash (5,029 m) — visible on the skyline.
The valley is much less visited than Kashmir or Ladakh, which is part of its appeal. In summer (April to October), the temperature stays between 18–32°C. The main draws are the alpine meadows of Jai and Chinta Valley, the high pastures of Padri Pass on the Chamba road, natural springs including Vasuki Nag and Khazanduf, and the trek to Mount Kailash in August (a straightforward route requiring no technical skills; horses and porters are available). The old town has a cluster of historical temples including Bhadrakali, Gupt Ganga, and Laxminarayan, plus the Jamia Masjid and Bhadarwah Fort above the bazaar.
Getting here requires flying or training to Jammu (about 200 km), then 7–8 hours by bus or shared Sumo via Udhampur, Batote, and Doda. Most buses from Jammu leave early morning. The train from Delhi now reaches Udhampur, from where the journey to Bhadarwah takes 5–6 hours.
