Chaturbhuj Temple

Chaturbhuj Temple dominates Orchha's skyline with high towers and massive walls that look almost fortress-like. Its scale is startling in such a small town, and the climb through the interior gives broad views over the roofs, fort, and river country.

It is less crowded than Ram Raja Temple and more architectural in feel. Visit both together: one is the living court-temple, the other the monumental shell that helps explain the town's sacred geography.

A story
Chaturbhuj Temple was originally intended for the image of Rama that now resides in Ram Raja Temple. That reversal left Orchha with two extraordinary sacred buildings facing one another across the town.
