A small urban lake near the Delhi Gate, named after Salim Ali, India's most celebrated ornithologist, who spent his early years in Aurangabad. The lake and its surrounding park have been developed as a bird sanctuary and is a pleasant spot for an evening walk. Migratory waterfowl visit in winter, and the adjacent Himayat Bagh botanical garden makes a good continuation of a morning here.
The lake sits opposite Himayat Bagh, a 17th-century garden established during the Mughal period that now houses a fruit research station with an impressive variety of mango and other fruit trees. The combination makes for a relaxed half-morning outing away from the monuments.
