Getting Around

Auto-rickshaws are the standard way to get around Nagpur. They are metered but drivers frequently refuse the meter; agree a fare before getting in. The city is large enough that long rides can be expensive.

Nagpur Metro opened its first phase in 2019 and has since expanded. The Orange Line runs north–south through the city centre; the Aqua Line runs east–west. The network is useful for reaching Sitabuldi and the railway station from the airport and for crossing the city without getting stuck in traffic. Fares are low and the trains are air-conditioned.

City buses cover most areas but routes are hard to follow without local knowledge. Ola and Uber operate in Nagpur and are often easier than negotiating auto-rickshaw fares. Renting a car with driver makes sense for day trips to the tiger reserves — the distances involved and the forest roads make it impractical to attempt in an auto-rickshaw.
