Things to Do

Nagpur's most significant attraction is Deekshabhoomi, the vast white stupa where Dr. B.R. Ambedkar led the mass conversion of hundreds of thousands of Dalits to Buddhism on 14 October 1956 — one of the defining events of modern India. The Zero Mile Stone nearby marks the surveyed centre of British India. The Nagpur Central Museum — locally called Ajab Bangala or "Wonderful Bungalow" — holds prehistoric fossils, Nagpur Kingdom armour, and natural history collections. The Raman Science Centre combines an interactive science museum with a planetarium.

Sitabuldi Fort sits on twin hills at the city centre. It's an army installation so access is limited to Sundays and national holidays, but the views over the city repay the visit. Ambazari Lake is the city's most attractive park — a reservoir surrounded by lawns, a small garden, and a children's park, busy on evenings and weekends. Futala Lake on the western edge of the city is another popular spot, known for its illuminated fountains at night.
