Things to Do

Panchgani is a walking and scenery town. The must-do is a circuit of Table Land at the top of the hill — the second-largest mountain plateau in Asia and a Bollywood favourite. The viewpoints at Sydney Point and Parsi Point give the classic hill-station vistas across the Krishna Valley, and Devil's Kitchen, just below Table Land's southern rim, is a small cave shrine with a Mahabharata legend attached. Closer to the highway, Mapro Garden and its rival Sherbaug sell every conceivable strawberry product alongside short walks and play areas for children. For a sense of the town's colonial past, walk the lanes around St Peter's School and the boarding-school quarter. Further afield, the Rajpuri Caves and the ruins of Kamalgad Fort are worthwhile short excursions.
