Getting There

By Air

Pune Airport (PNQ) is about 10 km northeast of the city center. It handles domestic flights to Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and several other Indian cities, plus a handful of international connections to Dubai and Singapore. A taxi or auto-rickshaw from the airport to the central areas takes about 30 minutes, though traffic can stretch that considerably.

By Train

Pune Junction is well connected to Mumbai and the rest of India. The most popular trains from Mumbai include the Deccan Queen (afternoon departure, about 3.5 hours) and the Shatabdi Express (morning, about 3 hours). Trains also run to Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Goa. Pune Junction is centrally located, making onward travel by auto-rickshaw straightforward.

By Road

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has made the drive between the two cities a smooth three-hour ride. State-run MSRTC buses and private operators like Neeta and Purple run frequent services from Mumbai's Dadar and Sion terminals. Volvo and sleeper buses are comfortable and affordable. From Goa, expect about 9 hours by bus or car.

If you are driving yourself, the expressway is excellent but watch for fog in the early morning during winter and landslide warnings during the monsoon season.
