Eating Out

Pune eats well across all price ranges. The local cuisine is Maharashtrian -- vada pav, misal pav, sabudana khichdi, puran poli, the famous Kolhapuri mutton dishes -- and the city is a good place to try it, alongside excellent South Indian breakfasts brought down by the Tamil and Udipi communities that settled here in the early twentieth century.

Camp and Koregaon Park have most of the international restaurants, the Iranian cafes, and the new-wave cafes. Deccan Gymkhana is the place for traditional pure-vegetarian thalis. The peths in the old city have the great snack joints. Anywhere you eat, don't miss a glass of solkadhi (kokum and coconut milk) after a heavy lunch.
