Pune's sights cluster into three groups. In the old city around Kasba Peth, Maratha-era palaces and tightly packed temples remain the cultural heart. South and west of the centre, the cantonment and Deccan area carry the British and post-independence stamp -- museums, parks, monuments. Out at the edges sit the rock-cut Pataleshwar Caves, the hill-top Parvati temples, and the modern landmarks of Koregaon Park and Aundh.
A good first day starts with Shaniwar Wada, walks across to the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, eats lunch in the Tulsi Baug bazaar, then climbs Parvati Hill for the sunset. A second day takes you to Aga Khan Palace, the Osho Resort gardens, and the cafes of Koregaon Park.
