Eating Out in Chandigarh

Chandigarh eats well. Punjab is famous for its tandoor cooking and dairy-rich gravies, and the city has plenty of restaurants — old-school, family-run and high-end — that take that tradition seriously. Sector 7 and the markets in Sectors 9, 26 and 35 are the densest food zones.

Try Pal Dhaba in Sector 28 for old-fashioned mutton curry and tandoori chicken in a no-frills setting beloved by locals for decades. Bhoj in Sector 22 serves an excellent fixed-price Gujarati-Rajasthani thali. Sindhi Sweets in Sector 17 is a Chandigarh institution for chaat, samosas and Punjabi sweets like soan papdi and pinni.

For something more contemporary, Whistling Duck in Sector 26 and Backpackers Cafe in Sector 9 are both well-regarded for inventive Indian and global menus.
