Shopping in Chandigarh

Chandigarh's best shopping is in Sector 17, the pedestrianised city-centre plaza that Le Corbusier designed as the commercial heart of the grid. You'll find clothing, handicrafts and Punjabi phulkari embroidery alongside the usual Indian bazaar staples. Sector 22 is busier and more local in character. For fixed-price Punjab handicrafts, the government emporia on Sector 17 are reliable.

The weekly Sukhna Lake Sunday flea market (officially the "Rehri Market") on the road behind the lake is a good spot for cheap clothing and household goods. For modern malls, the city has Elante Mall in the Industrial Area — the largest in North India — and a handful of smaller centres along Madhya Marg.
