Government Museum and Art Gallery

The Government Museum in Sector 10 holds one of the best collections of Gandharan sculpture in India — a body of work shared with Pakistan's Lahore Museum after Partition, when half the original collection from Lahore travelled here in railway crates. The result is a small but important window on the Greco-Buddhist art of the 2nd to 5th centuries.

The galleries also cover Pahari and Rajasthani miniature painting, contemporary Indian art, and a natural history wing. The building itself, designed by Le Corbusier's collaborator S.D. Sharma, is a low concrete pavilion worth a look in its own right. Allow an hour and a half. Closed on Mondays.
