Janta Sweet Home

Old-city sweet shop famous for pyaaz kachori

Pyaaz kachori — a deep-fried pastry stuffed with spiced onions — is Jodhpur's signature street snack, and Janta Sweet Home is one of the best places to eat one. The shop has been in the same family for decades, in the lanes of the old city near the clock tower market. The kachoris come out of the oil hot and are best eaten immediately, doused in tamarind chutney and green chili sauce.

For dessert, try the mawa kachori — a sweeter version filled with reduced milk, nuts, and cardamom, then dunked in sugar syrup. It is aggressively sweet and completely worth it. The shop also sells ladoos, barfi, and other Rajasthani sweets, but the kachoris are the reason to come.
