Kali Mata Temple

Active Hindu temple in the old city, busy with daily worship

An actively worshipped Kali temple in the old city, well removed from the main tourist circuit. The lane leading to it narrows until motorcycles can barely pass, and the temple itself is modest — a painted facade, bells hung at the entrance, the smell of incense and marigold offerings. It is not on most itineraries, which is precisely its appeal.

Jodhpur's old city contains dozens of such neighbourhood temples, each serving its immediate community of lanes. Kali Mata draws particularly devout visitors on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which are considered auspicious for her worship. Non-Hindus are generally welcome to stand in the outer courtyard; remove your shoes before entering the temple precinct.
