Mochi Bazaar

Old-city bazaar for traditional leather shoes and handicrafts

The cobbler's quarter of the old city, where leather workers make and sell the Jodhpuri mojri — the embroidered leather shoes with curled toes that are one of Rajasthan's most recognizable crafts. The workmanship varies: the better makers use camel leather, hand-stitch the uppers, and embroider with silk thread; the cheaper ones use synthetic materials and machine stitching. Take time to look, ask questions, and compare before buying.

Beyond mojri, Mochi Bazaar has leather bags, belts, camel-hide water flasks, and some fine saddle-ware. The lane itself is worth walking for the spectacle of craftsmen at work — hammering on wooden lasts, burnishing leather, threading needles by eye in poor light. Bargaining is expected and prices are negotiable; start at around half the asking price and work from there.
