Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park — named after the Hindu nationalist thinker and politician Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, who was found dead near Gorakhpur railway station in 1968 under circumstances that remain disputed — is a public park and memorial in the heart of the city. A statue of Upadhyaya stands at the centre, and the grounds are used for political gatherings and public events.
For ordinary visitors, the park functions as a breathing space in an otherwise congested area. It is not elaborately maintained, but the trees provide shade and it is generally uncrowded on weekday mornings.
