Ramgarh Tal is a large freshwater lake on the northern fringe of Gorakhpur, and the most pleasant natural space in or near the city. The lake has been developed into a recreational area with walking paths along the embankment, boating facilities, and a few garden spots that fill up with families on weekends and holidays.
The surrounding wetlands attract waterfowl, particularly during winter when migratory birds arrive. The area is popular for early morning walks. The state government has invested in improving the embankments and adding lighting, making it a more comfortable destination than it once was, though it remains fairly low-key compared to the busier ghats further west along the Ganga.
