Lal Khan Tomb is the riverside tomb of Lal Khan, a commander and minister under Balwant Singh, the eighteenth-century king of Varanasi. The story attached to the site says he wanted to be buried where he could still look toward the gateway of the royal palace.
The tomb is not one of Varanasi's headline sights, but it adds a quieter layer to the city's Mughal and local court history. It is most rewarding if you are already exploring the northern ghats and want something beyond the main pilgrimage route.
