Nepali Hindu Temple

Carved Nepali-style Shiva temple overlooking the Ganges near Lalita Ghat

The Nepali Hindu Temple, often called Nepali Mandir, brings a small piece of Kathmandu Valley architecture to the ghats of Varanasi. Built in carved wood and brick in a pagoda-like style, it stands above the river near Lalita Ghat and feels quite different from the stone temples and stepped ghats around it.

Its appeal is partly architectural and partly atmospheric. The timber carving, quiet courtyard, and river position make it a good pause during a walk north of Dashashwamedh Ghat, especially if you want a Varanasi sight that is beautiful without being overwhelming.
