The 26 Shiva Temples form a riverside temple complex at Khardaha, a short trip from Barrackpore. Built between the late 18th and early 19th centuries by local zamindars Ramhari Biswas and Ramkrishna Biswas, the temples are arranged in the Bengali at-chala style.
The appeal is in the repeated rooflines and the plaster decoration: creepers, flowers, niches and other ornamental details survive across the temple walls. It is a worthwhile stop for travellers interested in Bengal temple architecture and the old settlements along the Hooghly.
