Bishnupur Museum, formally Acharya Jogesh Chandra Purakriti Bhavan, gives context to the town's monuments. Its collection covers archaeology, terracotta, sculpture, manuscripts, folk art, and the wider cultural history of Bankura district.
It is not a slick modern museum, but it helps connect the temples outside with the craft traditions that produced them. Go after seeing the main monuments, when the fragments and local objects have something to attach to.
