Dali Monastery

Colourful Tibetan Buddhist monastery on the road between Darjeeling and Ghoom

Dali Monastery, formally Druk Sangag Choling Monastery, stands on the hillside road between Darjeeling and Ghoom. Its bright Tibetan-style buildings, prayer flags and large assembly hall make it one of the more visible Buddhist landmarks around town, especially for travellers moving between the ridge and the railway line.

It is worth folding into a half-day circuit with Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop or Tiger Hill rather than treating it as a destination by itself. Go quietly, avoid interrupting prayers, and take time on the terraces; the views back over the hills are part of the visit.
