The Darjeeling Ropeway is less about transport than perspective. From the North Point area it drops away over tea gardens and folded green valleys, giving you a cleaner sense of Darjeeling's steep setting than you get from the town's crowded roads.
Weather matters. On a clear day the ride can frame the hills beautifully; in mist it becomes more atmospheric than scenic. Go early if you can, and treat it as a half-day outing rather than a quick photo stop, because queues and operating conditions can shift with the season.
