Gadiara is a riverside village at the confluence of the Hooghly and Rupnarayan rivers in Howrah district, about 70 km from Kolkata. It is a popular picnic spot, particularly with Kolkata families on day trips. The Hooghly at this point is wide and the view across to the far bank pleasant. Small boats can be hired for river trips. There is no significant accommodation; Gadiara is best treated as a half-day excursion.

Getting There
Gadiara is about 70 km south-west of Kolkata, reachable by road or a combination of train and ferry. By road, the most direct route takes around two hours depending on traffic through Howrah and Uluberia. By public transport, take a train from Howrah to Mecheda or Uluberia, then a local bus or auto-rickshaw to the river ghat. A shared ferry also runs from Uluberia across the Hooghly.
Most visitors come as a day trip from Kolkata; there is no significant accommodation in Gadiara itself.
Things to Do
Gadiara is a place to slow down, not tick off a list. The river confluence is the main attraction — watching the Rupnarayan meet the broad Hooghly, hiring a small boat for an hour on the water, and doing very little else. That is the point of the visit.
