In the cool hill town of Bandungan, ten kilometres above Ambarawa on the road to Gedong Songo, the morning flower market is one of the busier wholesale flower markets on Java. Roses, chrysanthemums, and tuberose come down from the surrounding small holdings before sunrise; by mid-morning most of the wholesale trade is done and stalls switch to selling cut bouquets to day-trippers.
Cheap, photogenic, and a useful early stop on the way to Gedong Songo. Strawberries grown in the surrounding hills are sold by the kilo from roadside stands.
