Eating Out

Karimunjawa eats fish. The harbour catch — squid, snapper, grouper, prawns, sometimes lobster — is grilled at the evening market on the Alun-Alun in front of the mosque, sold by weight with rice and sambal. It is the best food on the island and not expensive.

A handful of small warungs scattered around the village serve nasi goreng, mie ayam, and the usual Indonesian basics. Beachside cafes have appeared in the last few years catering to backpackers — pricier and with slower service. Expect frequent power cuts and patient waits.
