Watugong Buddhist Temple, also known around Semarang for its pagoda, is a colourful Buddhist complex south of the city centre. It is not as historically central as Sam Po Kong, but its scale and setting make it a worthwhile stop if you are exploring beyond Kota Lama.
The temple is active and photogenic, with courtyards, statues, and a calmer atmosphere than central Semarang. Combine it with other southern sights or make it a short detour on the way in or out of town.
