Things to Do

Semarang's main draw is its old Dutch colonial district, Kota Lama, which has more intact colonial architecture than almost any city in Indonesia outside Batavia (Jakarta). The Blenduk Church, Lawang Sewu, and the Chinese temple of Sam Po Kong are the marquee sights. Beyond these, the city rewards anyone willing to wander — the old warehouses and trading houses of the Kota Lama are atmospheric even in various states of decay.
