Pontianak is one of the better cities in Indonesian Borneo for food. The Chinese-Indonesian cooking here has distinct local character, and the night food stalls along Jalan Gajah Mada are the best introduction. Bubur pedas (spiced rice porridge) and chai kwe (fried dumplings) are the two things to try that you will not easily find elsewhere.
