Kapuas River Waterfront

The Kapuas waterfront along Jalan Tanjungpura is the social heart of Pontianak, most alive in the evenings when the temperature drops and families come out to walk along the river. Wooden boats are moored along the banks, the old stilt-house kampung extends on both sides, and on the far bank you can see the palace and mosque across the water.

The waterfront between Pasar Flamboyan and the confluence of the Landak River gives the best sense of what Pontianak looked like before the concrete arrived. Small ferries shuttle constantly across to the palace side. Sit at one of the riverside warungs in the evening for satay and cold drinks while watching the boat traffic.
