Youtefa Bridge

Striking red steel-arch bridge across Youtefa Bay, opened 2019

The Youtefa Bridge — known locally as Holtekamp Bridge — was built for the 2020 Indonesian National Games and inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in 2019. It is a 732-metre red steel arch span across the mouth of Youtefa Bay, the only large modern piece of infrastructure in Jayapura and an obvious landmark from anywhere on the surrounding coast.

The bridge cut the journey time from the city centre to Holtekamp and the border with Papua New Guinea from over an hour to about fifteen minutes. Locals make a point of driving across it for the view. There is a small viewpoint with food stalls on the Hamadi side that is busy at sunset.
