Masjed-e Jame is one of Isfahan's essential monuments, begun in the 9th century and repeatedly expanded over more than a thousand years. Its four-iwan courtyard plan became a model for later mosque architecture across Iran, and the complex rewards slow wandering through its domes, portals, and tiled prayer halls.
