Maralan

Old residential district south of the bazaar, full of crumbling Qajar courtyards

Maralan is one of Tabriz's older residential neighbourhoods, lying just south of the bazaar district and still relatively untouched by modern redevelopment. Walking its narrow lanes you'll pass the wooden gates of Qajar-era courtyard houses, small neighbourhood mosques, and the occasional traditional bakery still firing a wood-burning oven.

This is not a tourist district and there is little to "see" in the formal sense — the appeal is simply the texture of an ordinary Iranian neighbourhood, intact in places that have largely vanished elsewhere in the city. Best done as an aimless hour-long wander.
