Measure Museum

Quirky museum of weights, scales, and measuring devices in a Qajar mansion

The Measure Museum occupies the historic Salmasi House, a beautiful Qajar-era courtyard residence in the old quarter. The collection traces the history of measurement in Iran — weights, scales, abacuses, rulers, sundials, water clocks, and a peculiar range of devices for measuring everything from rainfall to body temperature.

It sounds dry but is genuinely interesting, partly because the building itself is worth the price of admission. The mirrored hall and the stained-glass windows are beautifully preserved. Even if measuring devices are not your obsession, you'll come away with a feel for how a wealthy Tabrizi household lived a century ago.
