Tabriz Firefighting Tower

Distinctive Pahlavi-era brick tower that watched over the old city for fires

The Tabriz Firefighting Tower, locally called the Yangin Tower, was built in the early 20th century as a lookout for fire-watchers protecting the densely packed wooden roofs of the central bazaar district. The slim brick tower rises in tapering stages and was in active use until modern fire stations made it obsolete.

You can no longer climb it, but it remains a striking element of the central skyline and a reminder of how vulnerable the bazaar — and indeed the whole old city — always was to fire. A short walk from Tarbiat Street.
