Dolat Abad is an 18th-century Persian garden and palace complex on the western edge of Yazd, inscribed as part of the UNESCO-listed Persian Gardens. The centrepiece is the towering badgir — the tallest wind tower in the world — which serves the grand reception hall below. The interplay of coloured glass, geometric tilework, and the constant desert breeze makes this one of the most atmospheric spaces in Yazd.
The garden itself follows the classic Persian chahar bagh (fourfold garden) layout: a central pool and axial pathways divide the space into symmetric quadrants planted with cypress, pomegranate, and fruit trees. In the hot months, walking from the fierce sun into the windcatcher hall is genuinely startling. The site is well-maintained and easily combined with a visit to the old city.
