The Freedom Monument, or Nasb al-Hurriyah, is one of Baghdad's most important modern public artworks. Designed by Jawad Saleem, the long bronze relief stretches across Tahrir Square with figures that refer to struggle, sacrifice, and the 1958 revolution.
Its artistic value and political charge make it far more than a traffic-circle landmark. Security conditions and access in Baghdad can change, so treat a visit pragmatically, but if you are moving through central Baghdad this is a major piece of the city's 20th-century identity.
