Salman Al-Farsi Mosque stands near the ruins of Ctesiphon and is visited for the tomb of Salman the Persian, one of the early companions of the Prophet Muhammad. The shrine gives this stretch south of Baghdad a living religious importance beside its much older Sasanian history.
It pairs naturally with Taq Kasra, which is only a short distance away. The contrast is part of the appeal: a revered Islamic burial place close to one of the great pre-Islamic monuments of Iraq.
